Nestled in the rolling hills of the Southern Tier of New York State, only 15 minutes from the Pennsylvania border, lies the grounds of Dave's Gun Dog Training facility. There are over 80 acres of groomed habitat specifically set up for the training and schooling of pointing dogs and retrievers. The meadows are planted with acres of switch grass separated by rows of natural goldenrod along with food plots which hold the birds close to cover.
A number of bobwhite coops, called jonny houses, are strategically placed throughout the property. On a daily basis quail are released to roam and forage without the hands of man touching them. As a result, they develop a shy and wild nature, perfectly suited for the training of all breeds of gun dogs. Half of the houses are set in wood lots and alder thickets for the training of grouse and woodcock gun dogs. The remainder are planted in hedge rows pointing out into the fields of grasses where visibility is important in the basic training of your dogs.
Ponds are a must in the training of retrieving in water. We have four ponds ranging from a 1/8 acre body of water for swim-by training (training of hand signals in water), up to a 3 acre pond with several islands, fallen timber, and heavy vegetation throughout it. This allows our trainers to move from site to site as your pup progresses in its training.
You are welcome to come, take a tour, and review the habitat your dog could be training in. We have purposely enhanced our property to be some of the best training grounds in New York State.
